Interacting with the Report

View the growth of your LEA's students in the most recent year.

As the school math coordinator, you want to determine which grades need the most support based on the growth index.

  1. Click the Reports tab.
  2. Select Value-Added under the LEA Reports heading.
  3. In the filter panel, select the Growth columns needed under Data to Display.
  4. In the Tests and Subjects section, click the arrows next to the End-of-Grade (EOG) and End-of-Course (EOC) filters to expand them.
  5. Deselect all subjects except math under End-of-Grade (EOG) and End-of-Course (EOC).
  6. The growth data for math in the current year appears in the report.
Compare your most recent year of growth and achievement with previous years.

As superintendent, you would like to determine whether a support program for fifth-grade math has produced positive growth and achievement results over the last two years.

  1. Click the Reports tab.
  2. Select Value-Added under the LEA Reports heading.
  3. In the filter panel, select the Growth and Achievement columns needed under Data to Display.
  4. In the Tests and Subjects section, click on the arrow next to the End-of-Grade (EOG) filter to expand it.
  5. Clear the check boxes for all subjects except math.
  6. Expand the menu for math and select fifth grade.
  7. Under Years, select the check boxes for the two most recent years.
  8. The growth and achievement data appears in the report.
View achievement for one or more subjects, grades, courses, or years.

As a district math coach, you are meeting with the math department to show their students' achievement upon exiting each grade.

  1. Click the Reports tab.
  2. Select Value-Added under the LEA Reports heading.
  3. In the filter panel, select the Achievement columns needed under Data to Display.
  4. In the Tests and Subjects section, click on the arrow next to the End-of-Grade (EOG) filter to expand it.
  5. Deselect all subjects except math.
  6. Expand the menu for math to deselect any grade that you don't want to view.
  7. Under Years, select the check boxes for the years you want to view.
  8. The data appears in the report.
View the growth of a cohort of students over time.

As the math coordinator, you are documenting the results of a grant supporting your students' learning in math. Use the LEA Value-Added report to find the math growth indexes of last year's fifth-grade cohort over the past two years.

  1. Click the Reports tab.
  2. Select Value-Added under the LEA Reports heading.
  3. In the filter panel, select the Growth columns needed under Data to Display.
  4. In the Tests and Subjects section, click on the arrow next to the End-of-Grade (EOG) filter to expand the menu.
  5. Deselect all subjects except math.
  6. Expand the menu for math and deselect all grades except fifth grade.
  7. Under Years, select the check boxes for the years you want to view.
  8. The data appears in the report.
View growth results with specific growth indicators.

The school board asked for your assistance in recognizing schools in the district that exhibit high growth in math.

  1. Click the Reports tab.
  2. Select Value-Added under the LEA Reports heading.
  3. In the filter panel, select the Growth Indicator check box under Data to Display.
  4. In the Tests and Subjects section, click on the arrow next to the End-of-Grade (EOG) filter to expand the menu.
  5. Deselect all subjects except math.
  6. In the Growth Indicator section, deselect the Meets Expected Growth, Meets Expected Growth, and Does Not Meet Expected Growth check boxes.
  7. Under Years, select the check boxes for the years you want to view.
  8. The data appears in the report.
View growth and achievement for grades over multiple years.

As the chief academic officer, you are preparing for a vertical team meeting with elementary and middle school math teachers. At this meeting, you want to display math growth results and discuss the trends.

  1. Click the Reports tab.
  2. Select Value-Added under the LEA Reports heading.
  3. In the filter panel, select the Growth and Achievement columns needed under Data to Display.
  4. In the Tests and Subjects section, click on the arrow next to End-of-Grade (EOG).
  5. Deselect all subjects except math.
  6. Under Years, select the check boxes for the years you want to view.
  7. The data appears in the report.
How to compare growth results between LEAs

As a state leader, you want to determine whether five LEAs that implemented a pilot program for Reading have experienced positive growth in the past year.

  1. Click the Reports tab.
  2. Select Value-Added under the LEA Reports heading. Change the currently selected LEA to the first of the LEAs desired if needed.
  3. In the filter panel, under the LEAs and Schools, click Add a Comparison. A new LEA and Schools… drop-down menu populates.
  4. Select one of the LEAs that you want to compare from the drop-down menu.
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until all the districts are added. You can add up to 10 LEAs to the comparison list.
  6. In the Test and Subjects section, deselect all subjects except Reading.
  7. The growth data for Reading in five LEAs appears and can be compared.
